Flood-proof ferry terminals

Docking safely on riverbanks

Gangways with air tanks, hinges and locks that allow them to swing and float in flood waters have been installed to prevent ferry terminals on major rivers from being washed away in storms. When necessary, the round steel chain absorbs the strain and stands firm against the pressure of a flood wave so that debris and broken branches simply float by. When the flood waters recede, a TECDOS drive system then brings the gangways back into position.
